Teakwood furniture has a timeless style, unrivaled durability and incomparable natural beauty. It is the perfect wood material for garden furniture and can be crafted in elegant designs to showcase excellent workmanship. Teak is extremely dense-grained and highly resistant to rot, warping, shrinkage and swelling. Its high natural oil content acts as a natural preservative to the wood so it can be left outdoors for decades.
Teak wood ages gracefully and over time it develops a silvery gray patina that can be left in its natural state. Alternately it can be revived with a light sanding or the application of a little teak oil. Teak is very smooth to the touch and does not splinter. It remains neutral in temperature and has a faint, pleasant aromatic smell. Well made teak outdoor furniture is typically classic in design with its clean architectural lines and timeless style.
This suits all those who want to have its eternal value on their patios for ever. Durability makes teak furniture one of the best values available for home furniture. But you need to choose your furniture carefully if you want it around for many years to come. Teak is kiln-dried to 15% or less moisture content before being made ready for furniture. Freshly felled teak has about 40% moisture content. If left in the sun, about 25% moisture content levels off on its own. But when you make a piece of furniture out of teak with 25% moisture content may probably dry out and crack. But if the same piece were to be put it in kiln oven for two or three weeks you can take the moisture content down to 15% or so. A chair made from that wood can sit outside for as long as you please and hold on to.
